I just love Halloween and watching all the little ones go trick-or-treating. My boys are too old for that now. They like to roll people's yards and stuff like that :-) I remember all those crisp, cool Halloween nights walking up endless miles of sidewalks with two little ones. My oldest one always liked to dress up as Rambo and the youngest liked to change his costume up every year. It was always fun and we always got to visit with other parents doing the same thing as us. I miss the days when my boys were young enough to be happy just begging for treats from the neighbors on Halloween. Now it seems to take alot more money to make them happy LOL! Some great memories there and makes me realize how fast my boys are growing up. So enjoy your little ones while you can because they're grown up all too soon.
I know in my area of the country, there has been alot of talk about banning trick-or-treating. Most of this comes from the area churches. They seem to feel that Halloween is a night of worshipping the Devil. I'm not saying that some people don't do just that. All I know is that when my kids dressed up to go beg for candy, they weren't worshipping Satan. They were just having fun and gorging on candy. I don't discount anyone's beliefs but this is how I always felt about it. The kids are just having fun. The church we belonged to in my hometown had a big Halloween Carnival that night, though they called it something else. The kids could dress up and come to it but couldn't dress up as Satan, witches or anything like that. My boys went to that a few times and enjoyed it too. But there's just something about trick-or-treating that brings out the kid in all of us. I'm glad the church had the carnival as it does keep the kids off the street and out of trouble. I always went with my kids and never let them go by themselves. Just my opinions :-)
Reminders for Trick-or-Treaters
Wear light clothing or reflective tape so you can be seen easily by the drivers.
Never go into someone's house when you're not with your parents.
Wait til you get home and let your parents check out your treats before you eat any of them.
Always say 'Thank You' to the person handing out the treats. It makes them feel so good :-)
Most important of all, HAVE FUN!
Halloween Poem
When you're out on Halloween,
Watch both ways and be careful;
Grownups like it when you're nice
be nice and never be mean.
Ask for treats nice and sweet
Maybe you'll get an extra treat.
Getting hurt would be awful.
They may even load your bag twice!
